TOO LATE THE DIARY

December 15 2012

A year ago today, Typhoon Sendong entered the country and proceeded to devastate Cagayan de Oro City and other neighboring communities in Mindanao.

That same day, Comet Lovejoy entered the sun's corona and survived.

1885 years ago today is the birthday of Nero, pilloried in history as the tyrant who fiddled while Rome burned.

A year ago today, a tyrant in the making partied in Malacanang while CDO drowned.

In more recent retrospect, Near-Earth Asteroid 2012 XE54 makes a close flyby on Earth at about the same time Supertyphoon Pablo hits Mindanao.

Is there a constant confluence of earthly catastrophes with galactic phenomena? I remember reading about one when an earthquake hit Japan and triggered a devastating tsunami on March 11, 2011. I will have to make further reading on this. But just this past December 7, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake shook Miyagi, Japan, triggering another tsunami scare. Though none such occurred, it horrifies to note that that was at a time Super Typhoon Pablo was devastating Davao Oriental -- the time Near-Earth Asteroid 2012 XE54 was whizzing past the Earth at a distance closer than that of the moon.

December 15 is the start of the Catholic traditional midnight mass.

Today is the first of the traditional yearly Pasasalamat of the Iglesia ni Cristo; the other one is tomorrow. I'll do my share surely, though very ruefully not much. Been jobless for so long and been subsisting on doleouts from my kids. But I take consolation from last Thursday's teksto: "Alam ng Diyos ang iyong pinagdaanan. At alam niya na iyan lang ang iyong makakayanan. Ang malugod sa Diyos ay ang nagbibigay nang may masayang puso." Otherwise, as stressed by the Tagapangasiwa reading from the bible, the criterion is: you reap what you sow.

Still struggling with the question: Where have I gone wrong?

But no worrying about what has been right or wrong for the nonce. Today I get a reprieve from parting with grandchildren Thirdy, Tiffany and Gia. They were back in the house last night, here to spend the time while awaiting electrical installation in their new house.

Just knowing they're back under your roof is quite comforting.
